Five Reasons Why You Should Get your Caravan and Tow Vehicle Weighed with CHECK WEIGHT
Get peace of mind knowing your caravan and tow vehicle weights are under the legal limits. Know and understand your GVM, GTM, ATM & GCM. Save yourself a hefty fine and loss of points on your licence.
Incorrect loading or being overweight can lead to caravan sway and make it more difficult to recover the vehicle in an emergency situation. High winds, slippery roads, rough roads or a B Double truck passing you can upset the handling of a vehicle and caravan. By starting off balanced you will have a better chance of staying out of the ditch.
When you buy a caravan, the dealer doesn’t show you the weight balance of the caravan. So when loading the caravan you are guessing where to load and keep the caravan evenly loaded. By weighing each wheel of the caravan – Check Weight can give you all the information on wheel, axle and side to side weights, so you can correctly load your caravan. And a well balanced caravan is easier to tow.
Too much weight in the vehicle and caravan can affect the vehicles performance, using more fuel and wearing components. An unbalanced vehicle and caravan means the vehicle (and you) work harder. Check Weight often has comments from clients saying the caravan is easier to tow after getting the weight right – and as a driver they are less tired whilst driving.
As the all the acronyms (GCM, GTM, ATM & GCM) are legal limits imposed by the vehicle and caravan manufacturers, exceeding these limits is illegal and can put you at risk of a fine, loss of warranty if something breaks, and loss of insurance if being overweight contributed to an accident. That can be very costly !
To avoid all of this, it is important to weigh your caravan (and your entire rig) correctly, before leaving for your next holiday.
